You see the above title. I honestly thought that someday I'd have a book by that name on the best-seller list. Of course I was a young middle-school girl then, and I truly believed, to the very bottom of my soul, that I would one day be Mrs. David Cassidy.

I am absolutely certain that I was not the only 12-year-old girl holding that dream in her heart. I had his pictures on my bedroom walls, I had the Partridge Family albums spinning on my turntable, I had my future with David completely mapped out. Oh the adventures we'd have, the family we'd raise together, the music, TV shows and movies we'd make. (Because, of course, I was going to be an actress, singer and writer).

Alas, it was not to be, but he held a special place in my heart even into adulthood, when I finally got to meet and spend time with him. He performed at the Sioux Empire Fair back in 1992 and he came to the radio station for interviews. Not only did I get a great interview, I got an invite to hang out with him backstage before, and after his show.

Yes, I totally geeked out! But the good news? He was as lovely, sweet and engaging as I had always imagined. I never did get the courage up to tell him we were already supposed to be married and sharing our lives at that point.

Fast-forward to Valentine's Day, three years ago, he performed at Grand Falls Casino and again, I was excited to see him and yet highly trepidatious, due to his (then) recent alcohol-related issues. It was not yet known that he was in the early stages of a battle with dementia.

The show was a disaster. His beautiful voice was gone, what remained was forced and flat, he looked awful, (tired and sad), and he forgot lyrics. I know assumptions were made by many that night, including me. Sadly the reasons turned out to be more serious than anyone could imagine.

Earlier in 2017 it was revealed that this truly talented grammy-nominated singer, emmy-nominated actor, songwriter, and musician, was suffering from dementia. This was the same illness which took his mother, Evelyn Ward's life. He also suffered from painful, debilitating arthritis, as well as kidney and liver failure.

His family released a statement to US magazine, after he passed away yesterday:

David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years."

When I awoke to the news this morning, I'll admit, a few tears rolled down my cheeks as a line from Hamlet floated through my brain; "Goodnight sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."
