Known in some circles as “The Stradivarius Voice”, Maureen McGovern will pay a visit to Sioux Falls on Wednesday night.

Mostly known for her performance of “The Morning After” from the film The Poseidon Adventure, McGovern says she was quite young when she decided on her career path.

“I was in the third grade singing in the grade school choir. I remember making a conscious decision that when I grew up, I was going to be a singer. Coming from a small town in Ohio I didn’t know how I was going to do that. Somehow I maneuvered my life on to the stage and singing.”

Although she has performed around the world, McGovern reveals an eclectic place on the island of Sicily where if given a chance she would do a concert.

“It was an open-air theater with pillars and you see the (Ionian) Sea and Mount Etna in the background. You can sit in this circular little theater and know that thousands of Italian and Greek (spectators) sat on those little stools. Plus you can speak in a whisper and be heard on the other side.”

Wednesday night’s set list will include hits from McGovern’s studio career plus the songs and artists that influenced her.

"There's actually two acts to the show. One is 'Sing My Sister Sing' which is a tribute to women singer/songwriters particular from the 60's and 70's. Plus there's a throwback to some of my early singing sisters like Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. The other is 'A Long and Winding Road' which is based off an album I did. There is something truly timeless in these songs from Bob Dylan, Jimmie Webb, Joni Mitchell, and Carole King. These songs influenced me on my way to 'The Morning After.' I'm reliving my youth, I guess."

The performance is set for 7:00 PM April 12 at the Washington Pavilion.
