A monster eggplant grown in Iowa has set a new world record.

Iowa farmer Dave Bennett has cultivated his way into the record books. This Davis County wonder didn't just break the record; it shattered it.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture confirmed that Bennett's purple powerhouse tipped the scales at a whopping 8.33 pounds, eclipsing the previous world record set just last year.

The former champion, grown in 2022 by a gardener in Worcestershire, England, weighed in at just over 7 pounds.

Bennett's behemoth bested that by more than a pound, marking a significant leap in the world of oversized produce.

But it's not just the weight that's impressive. This vast veggie boasts a girth of 28 inches and stretches an impressive 32 inches from stem to bottom.

To put that in perspective, it's nearly as long as a yardstick and has a circumference larger than a basketball.

Bennett's green-thumb feat is putting Iowa on the map for more than just its famous corn and soybeans.

Bennett had some advice for anyone who may want to dig into the world of growing record-breaking veggies...”First, make sure you have an understanding wife or girlfriend...”
