Matt Cassel Will Start at Quarterback for Minnesota Vikings Sunday in London
Minnesota Vikings clamoring for backup quarterback Matt Cassel to replace Christian Ponder will get their wish Sunday in London - at least for one game.
The Vikings announcing Friday that Ponder has a fractured rib and will sit in favor of Cassel at Wembley Stadium.
Head Coach Leslie Frazier told the media Friday:
He's a tough, tough guy, but it probably wouldn't be wise to put him in that situation.
We have complete confidence that Matt will do a good job, our players are going to support him and he'll be the guy that will be leading us to victory on Sunday evening.
Cassel signed a two-year free agent contract this off-season. He's started 62 games in his nine-year career, with the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs.
He told reporters:
I'm not really looking ahead, to be completely honest.
I just found out this morning.
For me, it's really about going out there, being accountable to my teammates and hopefully, getting out of here with a win this weekend.
Kickoff is noon Sunday from London.
