Marshall Tucker Band & Pure Prairie League Coming to Grand Falls

A pair of American bands that were mainstays of 1970s radio are coming to the area later this year.

The Marshall Tucker Band and Pure Prairie League will play the Events Center at Grand Falls Casino, Saturday, November 20 at 8:00 PM.

Marshall Tucker began in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1972 and took its name not from a band member, but from a blind piano tuner in Columbia, South Carolina whose name was engraved on a key to the band's rehearsal space.

Over the years, the band has cranked out 22 studio albums, most recently 2007's The Next Adventure. Five of the band's albums have gone gold; one platinum.

Marshall Tucker has also landed two singles in the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, 'Fire on the Mountain' (#38 in 1975) and 'Heard It In a Love Song' (#14 in 1977).

Lead singer Doug Gray is the only original member still touring with the group.

Pure Prairie League's beginnings go back to Waverly, Ohio in 1970, taking their name from a temperance group in the 1939 film Dodge City.

The band has produced ten studio albums since their 1972 self-titled debut, most recently 2006's All in Good Time.

The group is best known for the debut single, 'Amie', which charted as high as number-27 in 1975. Three other Top 40 songs followed, including the Top Ten 'Let Me Love You Tonight' (#10 in 1980).

Steel guitarist John David Call has been with the band from the beginning, while bassist Michael Reilly joined the group in 1972.

Tickets for the November 20 show are $45, $55, and $65 (plus taxes and fees) and go on sale to Grand Falls eClub Members at 10:00 AM, May 20 and to the general public at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 21.
