The most severe impacts are expected along the North Shore, where blizzard conditions are possible with snowfall accumulations exceeding one foot combined with strong winds.

According to the National Weather Service, these powerful gusts will create whiteout conditions, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile at times and making travel extremely hazardous.

Across the rest of Minnesota, widespread snowfall is forecast, with gusty winds creating near-blizzard conditions even in areas with lower snow totals.

The combination of accumulating snow and reduced visibility will make roads treacherous throughout the state.

An area of wintry mixed precipitation will affect northern Minnesota, where up to 0.1 inches of ice accumulation is possible.

This glazing of ice on roads, power lines, and tree branches will create additional hazards and could lead to scattered power outages.

Residents across Minnesota should prepare now for hazardous travel conditions.

Avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the storm, and if you must venture out, ensure your vehicle is equipped with an emergency kit including blankets, food, water, and a fully charged cell phone.

Stay tuned to local forecasts and warnings as this significant winter storm approaches. Conditions will deteriorate rapidly once the storm arrives Tuesday night, with impacts lingering through Thursday morning.
