Whose Leaves Are These? Sioux Falls Leaf Blowing Laws
Your neighbor has a huge maple tree on your shared property line and all those beautiful leaves end up in your front and back yard, as well as your driveway, year after year.
Well, not just your yard, but you may find yourself wondering about the ones that do end up on your property.
So who is responsible for bagging and tagging all those crispy critters? If you guessed you, you're absolutely right. According to How Stuff Works, leaves are considered to be a product of nature, and therefore whatever property they fall on - it is the property owner's job to pick them up.
And it probably goes without saying that blowing leaves into your neighbor's yard isn't a good idea either. If only because it's rude and very unneighborly.
Blowing leaves into the streets of your neighborhood is definitely covered by local ordinances. If you get caught doing that, you could be fined or even imprisoned depending on the seriousness of your violation.
There is a good reason for it too, as leaves can impact wastewater drainage and the action of doing it is considered illegal dumping.
Just as a reminder, the leaf and branch drop-off sites are open in Sioux Falls through December 1 from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Saturday, and Sundays from 12 noon to 5 PM.
