Smashing Pumpkins Bringing 2024 World Tour to Sioux City
One of the top alternative rock bands of the late 1990s is headlining the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's outdoor concert series this summer in Sioux City.
Two-time Grammy winners Smashing Pumpkins are bringing their 'The World is a Vampire' tour to the casino's Battery Park venue, Sunday, August 18, at 7:00 PM.
The band got its start in Chicago in 1988 with singer and guitarist Billy Corgan, bassist D'arcy Wretzky, guitarist James Iha, and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
They have 12 studio albums to their credit with 30 million copies sold worldwide.
Six of those albums have landed in the Top Ten on the Billboard chart, including the band's only number-one LP in America, 1995's Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, which spawned four Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including '1979' which topped both the Rock and Alternative charts.
Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness was nominated for seven Grammy awards in 1997, winning one in the Best Hard Rock Performance category for the song 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings'.
That same year, they were named Best Alternative Artist at the American Music Awards.
A year later, Smashing Pumpkins won their second straight Best Hard Rock Performance Grammy for the song 'The End Is the Beginning Is the End' from the soundtrack of the film Batman & Robin.
The band broke up at the end of 2000 and reunited in 2006 with Corgan as the only constant member. Chamberlin and Iha have rejoined the band in the past few years.
Tickets for the Sioux City show go on sale Wednesday, April 24 at 10:00 AM.
The Boston band PVRIS will open the show.
