Minnesota's historic Lutsen Lodge has burned down to the ground.

Located in Cook County near the Superior National Forest, the Lutsen Lodge has been a popular destination for honeymoons and weddings for 139 years when a plot of land and the building was initially bought by a Swedish immigrant in the 1880s.

People on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Facebook were devastated recounting the many memories of the lodge.

This is the third time that the historic lodge has caught on fire. The lodge, with its historic architecture and notable designs, was the oldest operating resort in the state.

The story of the Lutsen Lodge is historical in nature. The lodge was initially bought by a Swedish immigrant in the 1880s. The lodge was built out over time to accommodate for the influx of guests. In the 1920s, a lobby and numerous guest rooms were added, but a fire destroyed it in 1948. The lodge was rebuilt in 1949 but burned down again in 1951.
