The new year ushers in a brand-new list of contenders for the Downtown Sioux Falls Burger Battle, with a record 37 entrants in 2024.

The latest to hit my taste buds is the Smoky Cow-Tipper Burger from Josiah’s Coffeehouse & Café.

It's billed as:

1/3rd pound all beef patty topped with tangy BBQ, smoked beef brisket, burnt end sausage, and shredded cheddar cheese all on a grilled potato roll.

To say this one is for the meat lovers out there is an extreme understatement.

The burger, brisket, and sausage are all coated in the sweetness of the BBQ sauce, although I must confess the amount of meat was a bit much at times.

There was an abundance of shredded cheese on the plate which looked great initially, but some of it ended up on the table rather than on the burger.

You have a variety of choices for sides and I opted for the hashbrowns because that's what was in the promo pic for the burger. It was a nice change of pace from french fries.

SCORECARD (Out of 5):

• Flavor: 4
• Patty: 4
• Toppings: 3
• Bun: 4
• Presentation: 4

You have until January 31 to sample as many of the 37 burgers as you can.

After you've polished one (or more) off, don't forget to download the official app downtown – The DTSF Digital Passport - to cast your votes on each burger.

Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives in Sioux Falls

In June of 2020, Guy Fieri and his crew from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives came to Sioux Falls and made quite a stir.

In case you've never been lured into an hours-long binge of the show on Food Network, Guy Fieri visits places off the beaten path and tries out their signature dishes and visits with locals.
