Police officials have found a Wagner, South Dakota suspect dead in Iowa after a short search for him in a murder investigation.

Officials with the Yankton Sioux Tribe say that James Leroy Perdue III was named as a suspect in a homicide case. He was widely considered "armed and dangerous."

Why Were Police Looking for James Perdue in South Dakota?

The Yankton Sioux Tribe published a press release on its Facebook page detailing the case and the risk James Perdue posed to the community and throughout the Sioux Empire. The incident in question occurred on Friday, August 14th "at approximately 9:04 PM."

The shooting took place near the Wagner North Housing area. Various tribal, state, county, and federal law enforcement agencies have been working together to assist in the investigation. No official report has been made regarding James was working with another individual in the incident.

Yankton Sioux Tribe asked everyone to look after one another during this difficult time.

Tragically, a life was lost because of senseless violence. A family is grieving, and our community is hurting. During this difficult time, we ask everyone to remember our responsibility to one another. Be a good relative. Look out for your family, your neighbors, our elders, and our young people. What Happened to James Perdue? Did Police Find Him in South Dakota?

Council Bluffs Police Department in Iowa confirmed late on Sunday, August 16th that they found James Perdue deceased. WOWT First Alert 6 News in Omaha say James was found inside a home in Council Bluffs, Iowa after a "hours-long standoff with law enforcement."

Council Bluffs police officers and members of the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force responded around 1:45 p.m. to a home near Madison Avenue and Autumn Circle.

Police say James Perdue had active parole violation warrants throughout Iowa.
