Eggs are big news these days. The cost keeps rising and they can be hard to find in some places. Some people are suggesting the way to go is to rent or buy your own chickens to have a steady and somewhat less expensive supply. And some people are going that route.

Here in Sioux Falls you are allowed to have backyard chickens. You can have 6 chickens without a permit and more if you apply for that permit from Animal Control. If you're going to have more than 6, all of your neighbors have to approve your venture too, and absolutely no roosters.

It's true, the simple egg is taking on a somewhat iconic nature just by its very existence these days. So the last thing you want to do when you get some of the precious cargo is put them at risk in your fridge.

Awhile back, a simple question about taking eggs out of a carton ignited an internet fire with hundreds of people chiming in. Many of whom claimed to have egg carton OCD.

I'll be honest, I've never even given this topic a thought, but I must be alone in this considering all of the input on the subject I've come across.

Reader's Digest even found an old YouTube video that claimed to have mathematically come up with 3 different correct methods to remove your eggs from the carton next time you have some.

I watched the video with some fascination, but ultimately thought it was kind of an exercise in futility.

I guess the most important thing is just not to drop them. And if you do, don't make "yolks" about it. Nobody likes a smart "al-egg"!
