Sioux Falls ‘Heroes Behind The Badges Blood Drive’ Results
The Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank is better stocked today thanks to the help of the "28th Annual Heroes Behind the Badges Blood Drive" that wrapped up on Saturday.
The event, which got underway on Friday, (December 20) and ran through Saturday (January 4) was well received by the Sioux Falls community.
Dakota News Now reports, that over 1200 people throughout the Sioux Empire rolled up their shirt sleeves and donated blood as part of the friendly little competition that pitted the Sioux Falls Police Department against Sioux Falls Fire Rescue.
Again this year, competition was fierce, but, in the end, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue turned the tables on the Sioux Falls PD who were victorious last year. This time around, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue came out of the gate strong and stayed that way throughout the competition. Once things were said and done, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue won by more than 64 points.
As part of the competition, blood donors were asked which organization they wanted to sponsor during the Heroes Behind the Badges event. According to Dakota News Now, the final tally showed that Sioux Falls Fire Rescue wracked up 641 votes, compared to the 577 given to the Sioux Falls PD.
Community Blood Bank Executive Director Ken Versteeg told Dakota News Now, “It’s truly an honor to be able to work with the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Sioux Falls Police Department, event sponsors, and all of the donors that provided hope to over 3,654 local patients throughout the holidays.”
As the winner, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue will present a check in the amount of $2,000 to their designated charity, Children’s Home Society, compliments of Citibank of Sioux Falls.
While the PD will give a check totaling $1500 to their chosen charity, Special Olympics of South Dakota.
A big thank you needs to go out to everyone throughout the Sioux Empire who took the time to give the gift of life to the Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank during this year's event.
