Here's a scary statistic, during 2015, 6,190 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs on South Dakota roads and highways. That's roughly 515 people each month.

Get busted for the first time drinking and driving in South Dakota and you're looking at thirty days in jail, a $1,000 fine, and the possibility you will lose your license anywhere from thirty days up to one year. The fines get exponentially worse with each repeat offense.

Do not be one of the 515 this month.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol has just released the list of sobriety checkpoint counties for the month of November.

Each month authorities set up different sobriety checkpoints throughout the state. During November they plan to do 17 checkpoints in 16 different counties.

The checkpoints are a plan to discourage people from getting behind the wheel of a car after having had too much to drink.

This month authorities will occasionally be camped out looking for drunk drivers in; Beadle, Brown, Brule, Butte, Codington, Davison, Day, Fall River, Grant, Hughes, Lake, Lawrence, Lincoln, Pennington, Stanley and Yankton counties.

Consider this your first and last warning. The life you save could be your own. Don't drink and drive!
