Is South Dakota about to Get a Garden to Honor America’s Heroes?
South Dakota is inching closer to getting a "Garden of American Heroes" out in the Black Hills.
On Tuesday. (March 18) Governor Larry Rhoden helped to pave the way for that to happen by sending a letter to President Trump proposing such a project.
Dakota News Now is reporting that in the letter, Rhoden recommended a parcel of land in the Black Hills that he believes would make an excellent choice to construct the National Garden of American Heroes.

Trump originally mentioned constructing a National Garden of American Heroes in an Independence Day speech that he gave at Mount Rushmore on July 3, 2020. His idea was to build a garden to honor the greatest men and women who helped make America exceptional.
According to Dakota News Now, Trump subsequently signed an Executive Order establishing the Garden project in January 2021.
Now Rhoden is proposing that we get around to making the idea a reality.
In his letter to Trump, Rhoden suggests that we begin the work of constructing a garden in the Black Hills that will be dedicated to honoring some of America's most iconic heroes.
Once completed, the garden would also help to showcase all of South Dakota's natural beauty, as it rests within sight of the Rushmore National Monument.
Who are some of the heroes we might expect to see honored inside the garden?
Some of the more notable names mentioned so far include George Washington, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Harriet Tubman, Babe Ruth, and countless others.
Dakota News Now reports that Chuck Lien and his family own a tract of land in sight of Mount Rushmore. The Lien family is willing to donate the land to help bring the garden project to fruition.
