
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Accepting Cadet Academy Applications
If the thought of running into a building engulfed in flames seems appealing to you, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue wants to get to know you.
SFFR will soon be accepting applications for an opportunity to join their firefighting team.
Dakota News Now reports that the application process for the 2026 Cadet Academy will be starting up on Monday, (April 28). The application period will run through (May 21).

Chad Quissell, the Talent Acquisition Coordinator for the City of Sioux Falls told Dakota News Now, "We are looking for individuals with a strong sense of service, a willingness to learn, and the ability to perform under pressure. Prior firefighting or EMS experience is not required to apply."
Being part of the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue team involves so much more than battling blazes.
You will also be tasked with rescue operations, medical assistance, EMS calls, fire prevention training, and more.

According to Dakota News Now, the selection process includes an entry-level firefighter exam to assess candidates’ skills. Upon passing that, successful applicants will be invited to the SFFR Cadet Academy, which gets underway in 2026.
Here is the SFFR Cadet Academy timeline:
- April 28–May 21, 2025: Applications open.
- June 3, 2025: Online entrance examination for all applicants.
- June 2025: Interview for selected candidates.
- July–October 2025: Conditional employment offers extended, and complete pre-employment screening process.
- 2026: Firefighter cadet class starts with an 18-week paid training academy.
