One South Dakota City Ranks In Top Five For Summer Jobs
Rapid City is heating up and not just because summer is right around the corner. Wallet Hub's latest study on Best Places for Summer jobs shows that Rapid City is the 5th best city in the country for summer jobs.
This study shines a spotlight on the Rapid City area's strong seasonal economy and job market. From bustling tourist attractions to local businesses ramping up for the busy season, opportunities abound for students, retirees, and anyone looking to earn extra income.

Wallet Hub contends that where you look for a job is just as important as what you're looking to do. With that in mind, they consider factors like minimum wage laws and local costs and how those things affect not just your work life but your downtime too.
There were two basic categories that they examined: the youth job market and social environment and affordability. Within those categories, they considered things like the availability of summer jobs and internships, unemployment rates, median incomes for part-time workers, rental prices, commute times, public transportation costs, fun-friendliness, and more.
This study included the 150 most populous U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state. Two South Dakota cities looked really good when all the numbers were crunched. Rapid City in particular.
Here are the Top 5 Best Cities for Summer Jobs;
- Scottsdale, AZ
- Columbia, MD
- South Burlington, VT
- Portland, ME

Sioux Falls did well too, but came in a little farther down the list in 29th place.
