Bert was born in Lake Zurich, Illinois, and has lived all over the country. A midwestern kid at heart, he's lived in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, and now South Dakota. He finished high school in North Carolina and graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone. After a brief stint in the insurance industry, he began in sports radio as an intern in 2015 with ESPN 730 in Charlotte, North Carolina. From there, he spent time with Learfield in Winston-Salem, NC, as well as gaining experience in local radio in small-town Iowa. Bert and his wife met in college at App State and were married in 2017. Now, they have three children and a dog, and are excited to call Sioux Falls home.
