Is Arby’s Restaurant Selling South Dakota Chislic!?
Arby's, the fast-food chain famous for its roast beef sandwiches and "We Have the Meats" slogan, has just introduced something that bears a striking resemblance to South Dakota’s beloved chislic!
Launched nationwide in early October 2025 as a limited-time offering, Arby's Steak Nuggets feature bite-sized pieces of seared and smoked sirloin steak seasoned with garlic and pepper. Sound familiar?
That's essentially what South Dakota chislic is...cubed meat, traditionally lamb, mutton, or steak that's been deep-fried or grilled and seasoned with salt and pepper.
In March 2018, South Dakota officially designated chislic as the state's official "nosh," honoring a dish with roots tracing back to German-Russian immigrants who arrived in the 1870s.

The town of Freeman is considered the Chislic Capital of America and hosts the popular South Dakota Chislic Festival, which draws thousands of meat-loving visitors.
The chain serves them in five-piece or nine-piece portions with hickory BBQ sauce, and they're also available in sandwich and mac-and-cheese bowl formats.
So, is Arby's actually selling traditional South Dakota chislic?
For those who can't make it to the Freeman for the festival or South Dakota restaurant Arby's Steak Nuggets might just scratch that chislic itch.
