Holiday Heroes Needed For All American Blood Drive On Friday
The summer months are often called trauma season because all of the summer activities can lead to more accidents, which also leads to the need for more blood and more blood donations.
The problem is that with vacations, summer schedules, and people traveling there are less regular donations being given.
To ease the strain on the community's blood supply, Dakota News Now, the Avera McKennan Fitness Center and the Community Blood Bank are all coming together to host the All-American Blood Drive this Friday.
The event will be going on at the Avera McKennan Fitness Center located at 3400 S. Southeastern Avenue. There will be two donation time windows, from 6 to 9:30 AM and from 11 AM to 2:30 PM.
You can sign up to donate online, or by calling 605-331-3222. Everyone who donates blood receives a t-shirt, a 3-day visitor pass to the Avera McKennan Fitness Center, and a Dairy Queen Blizzard certificate as a thank you.
Ken Versteeg the Community Blood Bank director is encouraging donors to get involved in this blood drive, saying, "It only takes 30 minutes to provide life to three patients in the local area".
By donating blood during this crucial period, you're not just giving blood – you're giving the gift of life. Your donation can help accident victims, surgery patients, those battling cancer, and many others. In the face of potential shortages, every donation really counts.
