I drive around Sioux Falls daily and there are many cool things I drive by and really don't think about much.  Recently I decided to slow down and take notice of some of the cities interesting aspects.

For example, what do you know about the 'Potato Man' of Sioux Falls?  If you are like me, not much I bet.  Here are 5-things about the 'Potato Man' sculpture that you might find interesting:

  • The 'Potato Man' was originally part of the 2006 Sioux Falls Sculpture walk.
  • It was installed in the South West corner of McKennan Park in 2008 as part of the parks centennial.
  • The sculpture is meant to pay tribute to the large Irish population in Sioux Falls.
  • The bricks around the “Potato Man” display dozens of family names of the people who purchased the sculpture from New York artist Susan Giessler.
  • Helen McKennan, who died in 1906, gave her house and 20 acres to the city of Sioux Falls to become the jewel of the city's park system. She also left money for the development of a new hospital, which was named McKennan Hospital.

Take those tidbits with ya to your next dinner party...
