Downtown Sioux Falls Parking Could Soon Cost You More
Downtown Sioux Falls drivers could soon have to dig a little deeper into their pockets when parking on Phillips Avenue.
According to Sioux Falls Simplified the city’s parking department is proposing several changes to downtown parking rates and enforcement hours. T
The proposals were presented to the Sioux Falls City Council Tuesday afternoon.
Under the proposal, parking on Phillips Avenue would increase to $1.75 per hour.
At the same time, the city is looking at lowering the parking rate to .75 cents per hour in both the 1st Avenue and 10th Street mural ramps.
Another major change would involve how late drivers have to pay for street parking.
The city is considering extending paid parking hours from the current schedule to 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
There would still be some free parking options downtown. Parking ramps would remain free beginning at 5 p.m. on weekdays, as well as all day on weekends.
The city is also looking at simplifying its parking fee structure and increasing some parking fines.
The proposed fine for parking too long would increase from $10 to $15. The fine for improper or prohibited parking would increase from $15 to $25.
The changes are still proposals and would need to go through the city’s approval process before taking effect.
For downtown visitors, workers and shoppers, the biggest change could be the later enforcement hours and the higher cost of parking on Phillips Avenue.
