Changes Planned for the 2024 South Dakota State Fair

Plans are being made right now for Fair season in South Dakota, and the South Dakota State Fair made a big announcement regarding the 2024 State Fair on Tuesday.

They're adding a day to the line-up starting this year.

The 2024 South Dakota State Fair will now kick off on Wednesday, August 28th, and run through Monday, September 2nd.

In previous years the South Dakota State Fair always started on the last Thursday in August. Beginning this year, Wednesday, August 28th will now be Channel Seeds opening day.

Dates aren't the only thing changing for the State Fair this year, so is the admission structure.

South Dakota State Fair Assistant Manager Candi Briley told Dakota News Now, “You know, our daily gated admission rate remains the same as last year. Throughout the summer, we will be running advanced ticket promotions like we did last year. What did change a little, was our weekly admission pass, where we did add Wednesday to that.”

If you buy your daily gate admission tickets on or before Tuesday, August 27th you'll receive a 20% discount. Other admission specials and incentives can be found here.

According to Dakota News Now, 2024 marks the second year the new Dakota Events Complex, or The Dex as it's called will be in use. A big cattle show was the inaugural event held in the Dex last year. The State Fair plans to hold another cattle show in the Dex again this year, along with other events scheduled in the complex throughout the remainder of the year, like a Thomas Rhett concert planned for Thursday, June 13th.

Some of the Grandstand entertainment on tap for this year's South Dakota State Fair includes the Goo Goo Dolls on Friday night, August 30th. Country music artist, Riley Green on Saturday, August 31st, and legendary country superstar Trace Adkins on Sunday night, September 1st.
