Here's something I think we can all agree on, nobody really looks forward to going to the Emergency Room. Don't get me wrong,  it's great they are available, but, we all secretly hope we never need to visit one, right? Much like the fire department, it is a comforting feeling knowing they exist, you just hope you never need their services.

Lord knows life possesses a variety of different reasons that can send us to the ER. It could be from something as minor as a wicked headache to a broken bone to a nasty respiratory infection to the very scary severe chest pains visit.

Once you find yourself knocking on the door of a hospital Emergency Room, not only do you need to contend with the reason you're there in the first place, chances are, you'll also have to put up with a lengthy wait time, depending on the severity of your situation.

Sometimes the wait can be more painful and frustrating than the problem that brought you there in the first place.

If you have very little patience for these types of things the good news is you picked the right state to live in. South Dakota has one of the shortest Emergency Room wait times in the nation.

About a year ago, an IT service automation company called SysAid compiled a list of the average wait times in Emergency Rooms for each state across the country and South Dakota ended up having the second shortest ER wait time in the nation. Second only to our friends up in North Dakota.

The average wait in North Dakota is around 1hour 44 minutes, here in South Dakota, we typically sit in the ER waiting room board out of our skulls for around 1 hour and 53 minutes.

Alright, South Dakota health care facilities, and ER docs, you get a BIG gold star for Emergency Room efficiency.

Be advised, if you're going to have some sort of health-related emergency or minor boo-boo that requires an ER visit, don't do it in Maryland. They rank dead last in the nation in ER wait times at 3 hours and 48 minutes. I sure hope you have high pain tolerance, and your smartphone is fully charged if you get stuck in a Maryland Emergency room. You're gonna need it.

The data used in the SysAid research covered the period of January 7th, 2020 to March 21st, 2021.
