Two Of The Country’s ‘Best Fish Fry’ Restaurants In Minnesota
Fried Fish is a big deal here in the midwest. Recently two Minnesota Restaurants made the list of 'Top 16 Absolute Best Fish Fries In The US."
Minnesota's state fishing opener is a big deal. It's such a big deal that it's normally held on Mothers Day weekend.
You know the opener is important when Minnesota moms throughout the state give their kids a free pass to miss the one day a year we officially pay tribute to mothers so everyone can hit the lakes to drink beer and catch Walleyes.
The fishing opener has historically fallen on Mother's Day weekend but for some reason, this year's event will occur a week later on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
One of the things I miss most about growing up as a kid in Minnesota was catching a bunch of Sunfish then filleting them out so my mom could dip them in beer batter and fry 'em up in a pan of hot oil.
As they say in Minnesota's... ”That's Good Eatin'!”
Recently the folks at Mashed.com came up with a list of “The 16 Absolute Best Fish Fries In The US”. And two standout restaurants in Minnesota made that list.
Tipsy Steer in Minneapolis came in #9. Their website describes themselves as “Local Sassy Brew Food since 2018”.
There are 3 Tipsy Steer locations in the Twin Cities. The dish that got them their spot on the Best Fish Fries In The United States is the 'Sunnies and Chips' made with real Minnesota Sunfish and Bluegills.
The Urban Growler Brewing Company in St. Paul grabbed the #12 spot on the list. They state their goal is “Bringing People Together Through Beer”.
They have a weekly special called the “Authentic Wisconsin Fish Fry” it includes Lake Walleye, Crisp fried, and Panko crusted. Served with coleslaw, tartar sauce, pumpernickel rye bread, choice of side.
The special starts sometime on Fridays and goes until it's all gone.
Now I have two more reasons to make a road trip to the Twin Cities!
