‘Tragedy Girls’ Trailer: Two Best Friends Would Literally Murder for More Twitter Followers
You know that feeling when you send a fire tweet or post a hot thirst trap to Instagram and the only person who interacts with it is your mom? Not a great feeling, right? Has your frustration with your own follower count ever made you want to, I dunno, murder a guy? Tragedy Girls is the horror-comedy for you.
Two BFFs Sadie and McKayla are so sick of being social media nobodies that they come up with a crazy idea: what if, since reading about local murder is everyone’s favorite pastime, they boost their online presence by pulling a Nightcrawler and being the first people at the scene? And if that requires actually doing murders themselves, then so what? The Ratio is The Ratio, and likes and faves are the new social currency.
If these two gals seem familiar, that’s because you’re looking at two feisty mutants: namely, the new Storm (Alexandra Shipp) from X-Men: Apocalypse, and Deadpool’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) . And that’s Peeta from The Hunger Games! But he’s, uhh, not in it for long.
Best friends Sadie and McKayla are on a mission to boost their social media fandom as amateur crime reporters hot on the trail of a deranged local serial killer. After they manage to capture the killer and secretly hold him hostage, they realize the best way to get scoops on future victims would be to, you know, murder people themselves. As the @TragedyGirls become an overnight sensation and panic grips their small town, can their friendship survive the strain of national stardom? Will they get caught? Will their accounts get verified?
Tragedy Girls also stars Josh Hutcherson, Kevin Durand, and Craig Robertson, and hits theaters October 20.
