If you ever suspected there was a global conspiracy to make you gain weight during the Winter months, you may be partially right.

New research in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests Winter weight gain is almost inevitable, that according to a Cornell University study.

Using data from wireless scales, researchers found Americans start putting on pounds in October as the days get shorter and more "fattening fare" becomes available.

In fact, the average person gains 7/10ths of a percent of their body weight by year's end - peaking around January 1st - and doesn't come off until late April.

So, make sure you get on the scale in the coming days and celebrate your weight, because it's the least you'll weigh for the rest of the year,
