Spring Cleaning Is Underway in Sioux Falls, Thanks to Project NICE, KEEP
About this time each year a number of people start getting the bug to do a little Spring cleaning. The city of Sioux Falls is no different.
That fact was demonstrated on Saturday (April 22) with the Big Sioux River Greenway Cleanup, and will be demonstrated yet again this week with project NICE (Neighborhood Improvement Complaint Easement) and KEEP (Keep Environmental Enhancement Permanent).
KDLT News is reporting, for the 28th year in a row the city is asking your assistance in helping clean up several neighborhoods throughout Sioux Falls.
Each year the city identifies a number of older neighborhoods or areas throughout the community where often times residents don't have the wherewithal to take their unwanted items to a city landfill.
This year the city is concentrating its efforts on four different neighborhoods located in the southwest, southeast and the northeast part of town.
Residents in the designated neighborhoods can put debris out on the curb in front of their homes all this week for clean-up crews to pick up.
Helping lead the charge again this year is Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether.
Just like in years past, Huether is assisting city volunteer clean-up crews over the next several days in keeping the city looking sharp.
Huether told KDLT News that he views the NICE and KEEP project as a great way to get to know the residents and various neighborhoods of Sioux Falls a little better.
“If we could just kind of maintain that beauty, ensure that neighbors are maintaining their properties and if we can help them with that then it’s good for the entire city as a whole," according to Huether.
The Sioux Falls Health Department receives around 1,800 nuisance calls on an annual basis. But, thanks to project NICE and KEEP, the city has been able to help keep a cap on the number of cases despite seeing a 33 percent increase in population growth.
If you want to find out the specific Sioux Falls neighborhoods that have been designated for project NICE and KEEP in 2017, and learn a little bit more about the project, you can do so here.
