South Dakota State Park Entry Fees Are Going Up
If you are planning a trip to any of South Dakota's State Parks you will be paying a bit more for access.
The new updated fees for South Dakota State Parks will take effect on December 15, 2024.
South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks notes that “These changes are part of our ongoing commitment to keep South Dakota State Parks welcoming, well-maintained, and ready for visitors all year long.

As we adjust our fees, our goal is to create a balanced budget that allows us to maintain and improve our facilities while keeping fees fair for everyone.
Our state parks are known for their natural beauty and variety of amenities, attracting millions of visitors each year. We want to ensure they remain in great condition for all to enjoy.”
Here is a look at South Dakota State Park's new fees...
Park Entrance License Fees:
- Annual Vehicle License: $40 (Resident) / $60 (Nonresident)
- Two Annual Vehicle Licenses (purchased together): $60 (Resident) / $90 (Nonresident)
- Transferable Annual Vehicle License (Resident): $90
- Temporary 7-Day Park Entrance Vehicle License at Custer State Park: Vehicle: $25 / Motorcycle: $20
- Daily Entrance Vehicle License: $10 (Resident) / $15 (Nonresident)
Camping (per night) Fees:
- Statewide Modern Campground Fee: $23
- Statewide Basic Campground Fee: $16
- Statewide Tent-Only Campsites: $16
- Custer State Park Modern Campground Fee: $27
- Custer State Park Center Lake Campground Fee: $23
- Custer State Park French Creek Natural Area: $8/person
- French Creek Horse Camp (Custer State Park): $37
- Electricity Charge (if applicable): $7
- Lodging (per night) and Picnic Shelter Fees:
- Camping Cabin: $60
- Shadehill Group Lodge: $300
- Oahe Downstream Group Meeting Lodge: $150 or $40 (Nonprofit Youth Groups)
Reservation Fees:
- Resident Online Reservations: No Fee
- Resident Phone Reservation Fee: $6
- Nonresident Online Reservation Fee: $10
- Nonresident Phone Reservation Fee: $16
- George S. Mickelson Trail Fees:
- Mickelson Trail Annual License: $20/person
- Mickelson Trail Daily Pass: $5/person
Boating License Fees:
- Nonmotorized Boats (over 12 feet) and Electric Trolling Motors: $18/year
- Motorboats (under 19 feet): $30/year
- Motorboats (19 feet and over): $55/year
