The South Dakota State Fair begins in about a week and a half, August 27 through September 1. Along with all the great food, rides and games, livestock shows, 4-H exhibits, live music, and vendors, this is a great informational and educational event.

Dakota News Now is reporting that South Dakota's Largest Classroom is at the State Fair again this year, and the knowledge kids gain and the fun they have can last a lifetime.

It gives students and educators a unique way to kick off the school year. This special event, held at the State Fair, offers hands-on learning in agriculture, science, technology, and history.

The South Dakota Secretary of Education, Joe Graves, will be on hand to read The Monster Who Ate the State, a children’s book celebrating South Dakota. He said it was a great way to meet South Dakotans and watch "education in action at each of the learning centers."

On Aug. 28, students can step back in time with State Historian Ben Jones and sign their own version of the Declaration of Independence. The Largest Classroom will be open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering opportunities for schools and homeschool families to engage with interactive exhibits and presentations.

Department of Education story times will take place at 10 AM, 11:30 AM, and 1:30 PM. Educators are encouraged to register early to secure their spot for this fun, educational experience that blends state history with hands-on learning.

This education program is free to students, teachers, and chaperones. Parking is free, and lunch is provided for classroom participants.
