It's pretty safe to say that at this point in 2020 we've all experienced more than our share of misery. But in South Dakota, we're apparently suffering more than a lot of other places.

On its new list of the most miserable states in America, BestLife has the Mount Rushmore State 18th overall, after considering a number of different factors like unemployment, poverty, and depression.

And while we were among the best in the country in terms of unemployment and happiness, we did get dinged on a depression rate in the bottom ten nationally.

But it was one other area that this survey looked at that really caused South Dakota's ranking to plummet.

Our COVID-19 numbers.

With the second-highest infection percentage rate in America, we didn't stand a chance.
