If you're like me, nobody is going to tell you which Christmas movies you should love. To be entirely honest, there are very few Christmas movies I don't like. Well, with the possible exception of some of the syrupy fare that shows up on the Hallmark channel. Even then, I occasionally fall in love with one of them.

PixlParade is a website that uses all kinds of sources (IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, box office, and awards) to determine things like the best movies of all time, or, in this case, the favorite Christmas movie in the country. I know one of our friends who would be yelling, "See, I told you!" at the news that Christmas Vacation came out on top of that list.

But what are people choosing as their favorite Christmas movie in each state? To determine that, PixlParade did a nationwide survey of 2,000 American adults asking them about their favorite Christmas movies from the past 50 years.

Minnesota and Iowa went the way of most of the country and chose Christmas Vacation as their favorite holiday cinematic event. Here in South Dakota, we went with Ralphie and his Red Ryder BB gun in A Christmas Story.

I'm not sure if I'd say it's my absolute favorite, but it is in my top five. In fact, when they run marathons of it, I'll keep it on in the background just for fun. I never tire of Ralphie's wacky fantasies or the Old Man's temper tantrums, Randy being stuffed in his snowsuit, or their poor mom not having a hot meal for over a decade. And of course, we can't forget the racy leg lamp!

Merry Christmas to you and your favorite holiday movies!
