Sioux Falls Teenager Takes Handgun to High School Fundraiser
If you're thinking of visiting a school campus anytime soon, make a mental note to yourself, not to bring along a handgun.
A Sioux Falls man could have used that advice on Saturday, (September 21).
Dakota News Now is reporting that 18-year-old Phillip Linderman has been charged with one count of having a weapon on school grounds after taking a handgun to a pancake feed fundraiser happening on Saturday morning at Lincoln High School.
According to Dakota News Now, a group of students were outside the event near a sidewalk on Saturday when they witnessed Linderman drive by with a handgun in his lap.
The report states that Linderman eventually went inside the fundraiser to have something to eat and then left a short time later. During his stay at the event, he did not show the gun to anyone, nor was the weapon used to threaten anyone while he was on school grounds. He simply had it on his waistband while inside the school.
After becoming aware of the incident, authorities posted a message on social media asking for the public's assistance in locating an individual and a vehicle involved in suspicious activity at Lincoln High School on Saturday.
A tip led police to Linderman later that day.
Dakota News Now reports that the handgun Linderman had on him was not his own, it was allegedly lent to him by a friend.
