Who do you suppose was more excited to see the long overdue snow we received over the weekend, the gang at Great Bear Ski Valley, or the folks who make a living in the snow removal business?

I'm guessing that both have been wondering if Mother Nature was ever going to give us a little white stuff this winter.

Sioux Falls finally received its first appreciable snowfall this winter on Saturday, (February 8), forcing people all over the Sioux Empire to once again get reacquainted with their snow shovels and snowblowers.

Officially parts of Sioux Falls received around 3.5 inches of snow over the weekend. Enough to make snow removal companies somewhat giddy, as their phones began to ring again with people looking for snow removal services.

D&K Lawn Care and Arctic Winter Management owner Dan Pyle told Dakota News Now, “We’ve got some work to do after this. We have found some things that are going to need fixing, so this is an awesome way to start the first snow. It’s a couple of inches. It’s a Saturday. Yes, we have a lot of retail traffic, but we also have the availability of a lot of great employees. We try to strategize. All this takes experience.”

According to Dakota News Now, Pyle's business had multiple snow removal crews deployed throughout the city over the weekend to help tackle this winter's first significant snowfall event.

He told Dakota News Now, "They've never really gone this long without anything besides some salting events."

This winter has been unusual, to say the least when it comes to precipitation here in the Sioux Empire.

The good news for D&K, along with all the other snow removal companies in the area is that it appears Mother Nature is going to lay another snow job on us again today.

Sioux Falls and the surrounding area are now under a Winter Weather Advisory for the better part of today with a very good chance we'll see another 4 inches of new snow accumulation by Tuesday morning according to the Dakota News Now First Alert Weather Center folks.

That should be enough to keep skiers and snow removal companies smiling over the next few days.
