Sioux Falls Welcomes Newly Opened Westside Recreation Center
Sioux Falls started flexing its muscles on the city's westside on Thursday.
Thursday (January 2) was the first official day the city of Sioux Falls took ownership of the former Sanford Wellness Center on Tea Ellis Road.
As Dakota News Now reports, back in April of 2024, the city of Sioux Falls announced that it would be purchasing the westside Sanford Wellness location in 2025 for 9 million dollars.
The new 70,000 square foot public fitness center will now be known as the Westside Recreation Center.
The city's new workout facility boasts a walking and running track, indoor basketball, and racketball courts, state-of-the art fitness machines, an indoor aquatics pool, waterslide, steamroom and sauna, recreation programs, fitness clases, and much more!
Sioux Falls Recreation Manager Jackie Nelson, told Dakota News Now, “We’ve had just over 1,200 pass holders sign up, so you know, some of those could be New Year’s resolutions, some of them could just because they want the indoor recreation space that we so desperately have needed across the city. So, I think there’s all sorts of different reasons, and it’s been fun to see all ages coming out today buying passes.”
Speaking of passes, Sioux Falls residents can purchase daily, monthly and annual passes. Reduced-income passes are also available to Sioux Falls residents who actively receive reduced or free school lunches, or actively receive Medicaid benefits.
To receive reduced-income pricing, proof of benefits must be provided before pass purchase or renewal.
The Westside Recreation Center will be open to the public Monday - Thursday from 5:00 AM to 9 PM. Friday 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Saturday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Take a look at all the different classes being offered and all the various amenities the new Westside Recreation Center has to offer here.
