Nearly a dozen nonprofits in the Sioux Falls area will be the beneficiaries of an afternoon of celebration and service on this year's Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

On Monday January 15 between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM a variety of hands-on service projects will be available at Sunnycrest Retirement Village located at 3900 S. Terry Ave.

The event is being sponsored by Senior Companions of South Dakota along with the Helpline Center's RSVP program

Working together with the King Center in Atlanta, literally thousands of volunteers all across the country will be taking part in the Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service.

Martin Luther King Jr Day is the only federal holiday observed as a day of service – "a day on, not a day off."

During his life, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. recognized the power of service, famously saying, “Everybody can be great - because anybody can serve.”

The event at Sunnycrest Village is free and open to the public. Just simply show up and lend a hand.
