Soon, all this heat and humidity will give way to that glorious, crisp autumn air, you know, the kind that makes you instinctively reach for flannel and a pumpkin latte.

When it does, your weekend trips with family and friends to places like the pool and the lake will likely switch to visits to things like farmer's markets, pumpkin patches, and corn mazes scattered throughout the Sioux Empire.

As we inch ever so closer to autumn, and your biological clock for pumpkin-spice everything starts ticking louder, lines will soon be forming at all the fall festivals and pumpkin patches faster than you can say "hayride."

To help you get a jump start on the Great Pumpkin and avoid getting stuck in a long hay wagon tractor line, here are some of the opening dates to pumpkin patches in and around Sioux Falls:

Country Apple Orchard plans to kick off the Apple Picking and Fall Festival season on Wednesday, August 27th. Their first fall festival of 2025 is scheduled for Friday, August 29th. Country Apple Orchard is located south of Sioux Falls at 27249 Highway 115 in Harrisburg.

The Corn Maze at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park will shift into fall mode starting in late September with over 7 acres of twists, turns, and dead ends carved into corn stalks that reach over your head. Their Pumpkin Patch will also be open for you to pick and decorate that perfect pumpkin just in time for the spooky season. Yogi Bear Jellystone Park is located at 26014 478th Avenue in Brandon.

Mazing Acres near Yankton opens for the season on September 13th, with their first Fall Festival of the season. Their annual Pumpkin Fest takes place September 27 - October 26 on Saturdays and Sundays. Mazing Acres is located at 30851 433rd Avenue in Yankton.

The Riverview Christmas Tree Farm will feature its annual Pumpkin Festival starting on September 27th through October 19th. The festival is held every Saturday and Sunday during the season. Riverview is located in Canton, South Dakota, at 48392 278th Street.

Falls Park Farmer's Market is now open through the end of October every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The Falls Park Farmer's Market is a popular destination each fall for people looking for fresh, locally grown fruits, veggies, assorted baked goods, and other fall season favorites. The Farmers Market can be found on the north side of Falls Park near downtown Sioux Falls.
