Sioux Falls ‘Paint the Plow’ Contest Going on through October 28th
When it comes to snow plows, here in South Dakota, we are always reminded not to crowd the plow during the winter months.
And if you live in Sioux Falls, it's also become somewhat of a tradition for local schools and area groups and organizations to paint the plows before the snow starts flying each year.
That's exactly what happened recently.
On Saturday, (October 21) all these local artists got their first opportunity to show off the creativity of their work during a one-day event at the Levitt by The Falls.
All twenty of the painted plows were lined up that day, and area residents were invited to come by and check them out for the first time.
The annual Paint the Plow project has quickly developed a reputation for becoming a community effort to combine art and utility.
Sioux Falls City Street Operations Manager Dustin Hansen told Dakota News Now, “You never know what’s going to come down, but the plows that come in it’s like, wow, they’ve really spent a lot of time on these designs and took a lot of pride in painting these plows. It’s always exciting to get them back to the campus and see and hold our one-day event here at the Levitt.”
Some of the themes on display that day included messages like, "Ice Sleigher" and "The Best Things in Life are Freeze."
The winning plow will get the honor of being part of the annual Parade of Lights coming up in November.
You can cast a vote for your favorite plow now through October 28.
