Nothing like around eight inches of snow and cooler conditions to make favorable ice to skate outside.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation promised they would say when the public outdoor ice skating rinks and warming houses would reopen. Five of the six came back on line today (January 27).

However it appears that Sherman Park will remain shuttered for the near term. The rest of them are open as long as cool weather remains.

In case you are unfamiliar with the schedule, the outdoor ice rinks are open Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. On the weekend hours expand from 4:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, 1:00 to 9:00 PM on Saturday and 1:00 to 8:00 PM.

The outdoor ice rinks are at Campus Park (26th Street and Summit Avenue), Frank Olson Park (16th Street and Grandview Avenue), McKennan Park (21st Street and Third Avenue), Memorial Park (26th Street and Sertoma Avenue), Tuthill Park (South Cliff Avenue, southeast of I-229) with a reminder that Sherman Park (15th Street and Kiwanis Avenue) remains closed.

For more information about the ice rinks, feel free to call the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Office at 605-367-8222 or visit their website.
