If you've ever dreamed of owning a piece of Sioux Falls without actually having to come up with a down payment, your chance is coming soon.

Here's some pretty cool news that may have slipped underneath your radar: Sioux Falls is getting its very own version of the legendary board game Monopoly!

That's right. Before long, you, your family, and your friends could be sitting around the kitchen table trying to buy, trade, and build your way to a Sioux Falls real estate empire without having to worry about interest rates, property taxes, or actually calling a realtor.

The Sioux Falls edition will be customized specifically for the city, featuring familiar locations, businesses, landmarks, and other places that are uniquely Sioux Falls.

Josie Cole with Top Trumps USA, which produces the city editions of Monopoly, told Dakota News Now that Sioux Falls was selected because of the pride people have for their community.

According to Cole, “We’re so excited. So, we do city editions of Monopoly all over the country, and we look for cities that have a lot of city pride, a lot of people who grew up and still live here, and just love where they’re from. So, we wanted to create something special for Sioux Falls.”

And now comes the fun part: Sioux Falls residents get a chance to help decide what makes it onto the game board.

Top Trumps USA is asking people throughout the Sioux Empire to submit their favorite local places. That could mean your favorite Sioux Falls pizza joint, a beloved restaurant, a family hangout, a popular business, an iconic landmark, or pretty much anywhere you think deserves a spot on the board.

Of course, once the game arrives, the real competition begins. You'll get to roll the dice, collect properties, make trades, build your empire and, hopefully, avoid the dreaded Go Directly to Jail card.

One thing is for certain: Sioux Falls has plenty of potential Monopoly properties. Falls Park seems like a pretty obvious choice. Maybe the Empire Mall? The Washington Pavilion? Sanford Pentagon? The Arc of Dreams? There are plenty of local landmarks and businesses that are prime candidates to make the board.

According to Dakota News Now, the Sioux Falls edition of Monopoly is expected to arrive in stores by the end of March or early April 2027. Look for it at toy stores, bookstores, grocery stores and other retailers, with an online purchasing option expected as well.

Now's the time to start planning your strategy.

And most importantly, which Monopoly token are you choosing?

Personally, I'm taking the Race Car. I'm not saying I'm going to dominate the Sioux Falls real estate market, but I definitely plan to pass Go and collect my $200.

Just don't expect me to trade you Falls Park for Minnesota Avenue.

5 Things South Dakota Gave the World

South Dakota may not get much respect. We get a blizzard and it's a footnote on the national scene, but if Florida gets a bit chilly it's breaking news. But, maybe it's fine to be forgotten about. We kind of like being left alone on our quiet piece of the plains.

South Dakota has given a lot to the world though. Not just giant mountain carvings and settings for HBO shows, but awesome things that the rest of the world should thank us for.
