If you filled up your vehicle in Sioux Falls yesterday, you might want to sit down before checking the gas pump today.

Gas prices in Sioux Falls have reportedly jumped overnight to as much as $4.19 a gallon.

That's not the kind of number anyone wants to see glowing on the gas pump, especially when you're already mentally calculating how many trips you can make before your bank account starts sending angry text messages.

For drivers who were used to seeing prices considerably lower, a move to $4.19 per gallon is a giant overnight shock.

The AAA Fuel Prices national average for a gallon of regular gasoline in the U.S. is $4.37.

A jump like that can make a simple trip across Sioux Falls feel a little more expensive.

South Dakota average Gas Prices over the last 10 years:

  • 2016: $2.15
  • 2017: $2.40
  • 2018: $2.75
  • 2019: $2.65
  • 2020: $2.25
  • 2021: $3.05
  • 2022: $4.10
  • 2023: $3.65
  • 2024: $3.35
  • 2025: $3.00
  • 2026: $4.19

For commuters, the difference can add up quickly. A 15-gallon fill-up at $4.19 comes to about $62.85, before any rewards, discounts or other savings.

So, Sioux Falls drivers, keep an eye on those signs. Yesterday's gas price may already feel like the good old days.

And if you've got a nearly empty tank, today might not be the day to practice your “How Far Can I Go on Empty?” experiment.
