Dakota News Now reports that Sioux Falls city leaders are teaming up with the Fire Rescue crews this week to help save lives by "Sounding the Alarm" regarding Fire Prevention Week.

Right now, you can request to have a smoke alarm installed in your home by calling the Helpline Center at 211. Once you do, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue will contact you to help install it.

Sioux Falls Fire Inspector Brandon Fey told Dakota News Now when residents set up an appointment to get smoke detectors installed, Fire Rescue teams can also help with additional fire prevention measures too.

According to Fey, "You’re getting a safety checklist that can go through your entire house, and looking for things we see can cause a fire. They can also help give you ideas on a home escape plan that you can draw with your family in case of a fire.”

Over the last 13 years, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue has helped install roughly 7,000 smoke alarms throughout the Sioux Empire.

If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue is available to schedule installation times on (October 10) or at the callers’ availability.
