Sioux Falls Marathon Ends with Marathon Love Story

It can be said that marriage is not a sprint, it's more like a marathon.

The finish line at Sunday's Sioux Falls Half Marathon was actually just the starting line for a Sioux Falls couple that got engaged upon completing the race.

Allow me to introduce you to Austin Gaspar and Ashley Gibson, a Sioux Falls couple that has been dating for a couple of years now.

On Sunday, (August 25), Austin and Ashley decided to brave the elements, tackle all the heat and humidity of a late August day, and run the Sioux Falls Half Marathon.

As Dakota News Now reports, once the couple passed the finish line, that's when the real excitement began. Ashley wrapped up the race by greeting family and friends, while Austin on the other hand had something else planned. Upon completing his race, he had made previous arrangements to have an engagement ring handed to him. Once he had the ring in hand, he tracked down Ashley, got down on one knee, and popped the big question. Word has it, she said yes in record time.

Austin told Dakota News Now, "By May, I had kind of pieced things together, but truly in the last probably month, month and a half, did it become a solid plan. I was focused on the proposal the entire race, so my mind was elsewhere. I was kind of on autopilot until the end of the race."

Sunday's Sioux Falls Half Marathon truly ended in a marathon love story!

Austin and Ashley's next big run together will be a race to the alter sometime in the future.
