Sioux Falls Police Share Heartwarming Story of Former Drug User's Restaurant Encounter.

Sometimes we just hear about challenging encounters from the Sioux Falls Police Department, but here is a positive story from a recent restaurant run-in.

The Sioux Falls Police Department posted...

“The other day, three of us police officers went out to lunch.

I saw a woman behind the counter as her eyes grew wide as we walked into the restaurant.

She recognized one of us (a former narcotics detective) from a time in her life when substance abuse had taken control.

She was making some less-than-ideal choices back then.

We got to talking about life.

She’s proud to say she’s eight years sober and drug free since graduating from Drug Court.

The restaurant owner gave her a chance after she turned her life around, she said. “That’s why I’ll always work for him and his wife.”

It was a powerful few minutes. An unexpected, uplifting conversation that left a lasting impression.

She visits those who are in Drug Court that are still finding their way and offers her support.

We encouraged her to keep sharing her story and to always be proud of how far she’s come, we know there are many others that have not chosen the path she has.

Yes, we all know the system isn’t perfect.

But moments like this remind us that small acts, like offering someone a second chance or taking time to mentor, can go a long way in making it better.”
