If you're a fan of all things law enforcement-related and have always wondered what goes on behind the scenes at the Sioux Falls Police Department, this opportunity may be right up your alley.

Dakota News Now is reporting that the Sioux Falls Police Department has started taking applications for its Citizens' Police Academy. The Academy gives residents a chance to see what law enforcement work is really like. The program is designed to build understanding between officers and the community while offering a behind-the-scenes look at daily police duties.

The academy is open to anyone over 18, and it's free. The academy session will run for 11 weeks, from March 10 through May 19, on Tuesday nights from 6:30 to 9:30 PM.

Participants attend classes, and the sessions will focus on different areas of law enforcement, such as patrol procedures, investigations, traffic stops, and emergency response. Officers explain how they make decisions in the field and the challenges they face on the job.

One highlight of the academy is the hands-on learning. Participants will get the chance to do ride-alongs, tour police facilities, learn how evidence is collected, and much more. These experiences help residents better understand the training and teamwork involved in keeping the community safe.

The program also encourages open conversation. Attendees can ask questions, share concerns, and discuss topics that matter to them. This helps build trust and strengthens the connection between the police department and the people it serves.

The Citizens Police Academy hopes that its graduates leave feeling more informed and become citizens who feel confident about and connected to our local police officers.
