Sioux Falls is giving you a chance to channel your inner Tackleberry with the start of the New Year.

The Sioux Falls Police Department has just opened up the application window for its 2023 Citizens’ Police Academy.

They aren't looking for a wannabe Mahoney, Hightower, and Jones, but they are offering the opportunity for citizens in the community who are interested in law enforcement to get a better understanding of the various challenges the city's law enforcement agency is up against each day.

As Dakota News Now reports, the purpose of the Citizens Police Academy is to help build a bridge between members of the community and the police department by giving citizens “a firsthand look at what rules, regulations and policies law enforcement officers are required to follow.

In addition, members of the community also receive the opportunity to ask law enforcement officials questions and participate in some of the training that their officers go through in order to wear the police uniform.

The academy really provides an excellent educational experience for citizens within the community who want to learn more about the inner workings of law enforcement.

According to Dakota News Now, officers and personnel from the Sioux Falls Police Department and Metro Communications will serve as instructors for the various sessions provided.

Here's the deal, the 10-week series is limited to only 40 participants. So if you're interested, I wouldn't procrastinate.

The Citizens' Police Academy program kicks off March 14 and runs through May 16, every Tuesday night from 6 to 9:30 PM.

You must be at least 18 years old to participate, and willing to make a commitment to attend the majority of the 10 different sessions.

You can learn more, and get application information here.
