With the school board election coming up Tuesday April 14, 2015, Minnehaha County Auditor Bob Litz says counting the votes should go smoothly this time.

In November 2014 the new election equipment created a snafu during the South Dakota general election, failing to count ballots that were marked with a different type of pen or boxes that had only check marks to select the vote. Litz is optimistic this time things will go as planned.

"The night of the election, teams will bring the ballots down here and then we'll unload them out of the ballot boxes and then we start running them through the machine. We've tested them and everything went smoothly."

Litz says you can vote ahead of time with absentee voting. "You can do that down at this office, bring your ID, come on down here, we're open from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM and you can absentee vote anytime during that."

Go to the building just south of the current courthouse. Absentee voting is the same place where you can register to vote. It's in the same hallway as vehicle registration.
