New SculptureWalk Pieces Added to Downtown Sioux Falls
As of Saturday (May 6) morning, there are now 56 new reasons to visit downtown Sioux Falls. The city just finished adding new sculptures to the downtown SculptureWalk.
My wife and I took advantage of the beautiful weather on Sunday afternoon to check them out and I must say some of them are absolutely amazing!
KDLT News is reporting that this year’s SculptureWalk represents 21 states and two countries, the United States and Canada.
One of the new pieces is called Willow. It was created by Fort Wayne, Indiana Native Gregory Mendez.
Mendez told KDLT News he's been creating pieces for the sculpture walk for almost a decade now. Mendez enjoys the friendly competition the SculptureWalk creates each year.
"Each year, if you want to remain in the program, you have to come up with something a little bit more creative than you did the year before because there are a lot of high caliber artists out here," according to Mendez. "If you kind of relax or really don’t push yourself too hard, somebody else will."
One of my favorite pieces that afternoon was the Sitting Panther created by Eric Thorsen.
The detail on that particular sculpt is outstanding!
I highly recommend the next time you're in downtown Sioux Falls, take a few extra minutes to walk the streets of Main and Phillips Avenue and check out all the phenomenal artwork on display for passers-by to enjoy. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
