Great Bear in Sioux Falls Gearing Up For Exciting New Bike Trail Network
If you're into the sport of mountain biking, this news should cause you to pop a wheelie.
Great Bear Recreation Park, located just northeast of Sioux Falls, on the way to Brandon, will be getting a series of new bike trails soon.
Falls Area SingleTrack (FAST), the driving force behind the project, announced that it has reached 75 percent of its fundraising goal, allowing it to begin construction this summer on a new network of bike trails inside Great Bear Recreation Park.
Pigeon 605 reports that the bike trail project is being done in conjunction with the International Mountain Bicycling Association’s Trail Solutions team.

According to Pigeon 605, the first phase of the project will include roughly 4 to 5 miles of new trails, which will be integrated with existing paths. Subsequent phases of construction will introduce a total of 13 new miles of bike trails to Great Bear Recreation Park.
Mountain bikers aren't the only ones who will benefit from having this new trail network.
Hikers and outdoor lovers alike will all be privy to the multitude of new outdoor experiences the new trail network at Great Bear will offer outdoor enthusiasts here in the Sioux Empire.
As Pigeon 605 reports, Falls Area SingleTrack has dubbed its fundraising campaign "The Great Trail Build. Destination: Bear." They've set out to raise $1.25 million for the project.

So far, the overall support has been overwhelming. However, they still need the support of the community to get this project to its finish line.
Here's the status of the project right now:
Field design and flagging for construction are now underway. Construction itself will begin in mid-July and hopefully conclude by mid-September. Depending on how things progress, there's a chance the construction phase could linger into early 2026.
