Every once in a while we hear reports of wildlife showing up in places you might not normally see them. Like, if we said, a Mountain Lion was spotted in downtown Sioux Falls you might scratch your head a bit and say, hey, pump the brakes. So, when you hear of one being spotted in Springfield, South Dakota it might not be that unusual of an occurrence.

Recently, a big cat was caught on camera near the Mike Durfee State Prison in the quiet little border town of Springfield on the Southern border of South Dakota near the Missouri River. According to a story printed earlier today on KYNT.com;

According to Springfield Police Chief Doug McGee, the mountain lion was sighted early Wednesday morning at 2:00 am on the south side of the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield. The mountain lion was spotted on one of the prison security cameras.

Now, a siting like a Mountain Lion isn't common in Springfield, it's not unheard of McGee also mentioned that they do spot one every once in a while. That said, he encouraged residents of Springfield to keep an eye on pets and young children, especially after dark.

New Sculptures Added In Sioux Falls For Sculpture Walk - May 2021

The Sioux Falls SculptureWalk is known to be the largest outdoor exhibit that features sculptures year-round on Phillips Avenue and throughout other parts of the city. Well over 800 sculptures have been on display throughout the history of the Sioux Falls SculptureWalk.
If you've been walking around Downtown Sioux Falls the last couple of days, you've probably have noticed the latest editions to this year's Sioux Falls SculptureWalk. My friend Miranda and I sure enjoyed seeing the new sculptures!
Every year, we walk around to admire the new artwork in the city. It was just a coincidence we were in town when some new sculptures were unveiled!

Life on a Cattle Ranch in Western South Dakota

Life is different out in the country. One look at the photo from Robin Bickel and you quickly realize that a workday is quite different as well, after all, she lives out west in South Dakota Cattle Country.

Robin Bickel took time to tell KIKN Country a little bit about her life out west and life as a woman, working outdoors with animals and nature in God's Country. Bickel lives and works on a cattle ranch operated by herself, her father, Jack, and his brother Keith. How far out in the country is she? How does 50 miles west of Mobridge, South Dakota sound? Yep, mountain time out there.

Life is so different in Sioux Falls, South Dakota compared to what our friends on the farm and ranches deal with. It's a half-mile to the grocery store for our family. For Robin, it's 17 miles. However, it's a quick step out her door and she's right in the middle of where a lot of the groceries come from.
